Rent Receipt
Rent Receipts for HRA Exemption
To claim HRA (House Rent Allowance) tax exemption, you must submit proof of rent payment to your employer. This is best done via valid Rent Receipts signed by your landlord.
When is it Required?
- Employers usually ask for receipts in Jan-Feb for final tax proof.
- Required for rent amounts over ₹3,000/month.
The Revenue Stamp Rule
If you pay rent in Cash exceeding ₹5,000 per receipt, you MUST affix a ₹1 Revenue Stamp and get it signed by the landlord. If paid via Cheque/Bank Transfer, a revenue stamp is generally not required, but still good practice.
