AC Size Calc
Choosing the Right AC Tonnage
Buying an Air Conditioner that is too small will not cool your room effectively, while one that is too big will cool too fast, leading to humidity issues and higher electricity bills (frequent on/off cycling).
General Sizing Guide
AC capacity is measured in Tons (TR) or BTUs (British Thermal Units). 1 Ton ≈ 12,000 BTU.
Rule of Thumb:
Capacity (Tons) = Room Area (sq ft) / 600 (For standard height rooms).
Influencing Factors
- Room Size: < 100 sq ft=0.8 Ton; 100-150 sq ft=1.0 Ton; 150-200 sq ft=1.5 Ton.
- Sunlight: If the room gets direct sunlight, increase capacity by 10%.
- Occupancy: If more than 2 people regularly occupy the room, add 600 BTU per person.
- Kitchen: If installing in/near a kitchen, add 4,000 BTU due to heat from cooking.
FAQ
What is Inverter AC?
An inverter AC can control the speed of its compressor motor to regulate temperature. It is more energy-efficient and quieter than non-inverter models.
